Services like Easypaisa and UBL Omni were launched nearly 3 years ago in Pakistan and become popular within no time. Recently, Mobicash and TimePay services have been launched with the same motive, which are facilitating the cash transfer and utility bill payments along with many other financial services all over the Pakistan.According to the State bank of Pakistan (SBP), during the first quarter of FY2013, the amount transferred through branchless banking transactions has been increased by 21% as compared to the last quarter of FY2012. Further, more than 31.4 million transactions worth of Rs. 139 billion have been recorded through branchless banking. Moreover, the numbers of agents have increased by 7%.
Keeping in view of the above case you are required to answer the below questions:
1. What is the impact on financial exclusion by the emergence of branchless banking in Pakistan? (5 Marks)
2. How branchless banking is more advantageous than formal banking for general public? (5 Marks)
3. What is the impact of “financial services offered through branchless banking” on the BOP community’s living standards and life style? (10 Marks)
